Aneta Grzeszykowska
Album

2005
201 photographs in an album, 29 x 40 x 9 cm

The "Album" comprises over 200 photographs from Aneta Grzeszykowska's private family archive. Using Photoshop, the artist has transformed her family album by removing herself from all the photographs. We are thus looking at a void left behind an erased person. In some of the photos the lack of the artist and heroine is obvious, in others the images are of a more abstract nature with pieces of landscape or unusually framed house interiors. The “deletion” lets Grzeszykowska enter a multilevel play with the mechanisms of remembering and forgetting which she illustrates by means of photographic manipulation.
