Michelle Rawlings
Untitled

2016
oil on linen, Plexiglas frame, 27 x 18 cm

The realm of Rawlings' visual pursuits is in large part focused on the subject of girlhood or womanhood. She often creates her paintings, particularly portraits, from found images—not only on the internet but also those collected and kept from magazines and newspapers. The artist comments "I like the feeling that I have when I look at an image I find and it looks like painting already because of the way its been printed or the color runs together... that's the way I felt about this painting. I also find the aesthetics of old video games to be really beautiful looking now!"
