faux leather, PCV floor carpet, resin, cups, dried exotic fruits
The installation is an attempt to „domesticate” the fear of death and of places dedicated to it. It grew from the existential dread mixed with a desire for a long-awaited rest. Dressed in flesh-colored fake leather, the tombs bring to mind the lounge furniture and accessories of the past, but also human skin – the first organ to decay after death. The domesticated necropolis and the placated demons are fed dried exotic plants, strangely resemblant of scattered skeletons. In this décor, it’s pleasant to wait for the rest of the equally exhausted company.
Waiting for the Rest was presented at Ujazdowski Castle Centre for Contemporary Art at the exhibition Waiting for Another Coming.
