Perspective Trap

2015-2016, oil on canvas, various dimensions

In his paintings from the "Perspective Trap" series Bujnowski explores the concept of an illusion of a three-dimensional object in a way that undermines traditional ways of looking at an image. Seen from afar, they seem to be just framed photographs with passe-partout hanging in a row—but only when examined from up-close they turn out to be something completely else: the image, frames and passe-partout are all painted on irregularly shaped canvases that only mimic the perspective.
Those works bring together various aspects of the artists oeuvre into one: elements of abstraction, landscape, figuration and trompe l'oeil, all used to challenge the viewers’ perception of a painting as an object.
