A vast black form leaves no choice, making it impossible to pass or move around indifferently and unnoticed. Its scale pulls the viewer into a game. The artist himself refers to the work as a ”mental abyss” or an “extremely bad situation”. In fact, Budny confronts the audience with a negative cast of the precipice: instead of a bottomless abyss we encounter a black surface, erected slightly above the floor. It is an expanse, but one that gives hope of remaining on the surface. Psychoanalytical minimalism.
