Brick

1999-2002
oil on canvas, a series of 100 paintings, 25 x 12 x 6 cm each

The first of a tautological series of object-paintings by Bujnowski. Each of the one hundred pictures, repeating the same shape and size of a typical brick, varies only in shade of color. Even before the artist graduated, he was reflecting upon the utilitarian aspects of the artist’s work and his social relevance; this is also a first attempt at monochromatic pictures, subversively developing the tradition of minimalist painting.
